Hope everyone enjoyed their extended long weekend! ‘Fall ball’ means busy times for lacrosse at Claremont (and outside of Claremont). Congratulations to the club teams and their athletes for their participation and success this past weekend in Richmond.

This week at Claremont the focus will be lacrosse and prep for the Spartan Shootout and the Space Needle tournament. The weather looks to be in our favour finally so we are planning at being at the turf every day this week. Busing has been arranged so please have your (jr) sons be dropped off at the turf each morning.

All information for the Spartan Shootout has been added to the site on a new page you can see in the menu across the top. Here is a link to the page – https://goo.gl/kL1o7B.

On that page you will find the 2016 team rosters chosen for our Spartan Shootout tournament with the intent of dividing them as equally as possible (the Sr grade 12 captains took the credit and did a ‘fantasy draft’ for the two sr teams so the competitive chatter has already begun). It should lead to a competitive two weeks of practice for both groups!!

As well, the tourney schedule is posted – I hope it is now FINAL as it has been done and redone several times but do think all requests have been accommodated and can now look forward to the games.

Friday night will be a special night for the whole program, especially our graduating class of gr 12’s. The schedule has been worked to ensure all guys will be playing prior to the big event and some special events have been planned by the student government, student body, and parent volunteers to make it our version of ’Senior’s Night’. A poster and KidSport fundraiser are being arranged in conjunction with the evening and it promises to be a fun night.

Now that the schedule is released I know Caroline Mace will soon be sending out volunteer requests. I encourage all families to be involved with this as it is CRITICAL to the event running smoothly. The coaches and organizing group can NOT do it all and it’s expected that all families contribute in some way to help. Saturday games at Topaz do not include any Claremont teams to allow Chris and I to remain at UVic but Topaz will still need to be organized and run by us. I will wait until volunteer schedule is out and filled but will help by scheduling some of our gr 11/12 guys to be helping with scorekeeping, etc when they are not playing at UVic but they will also need some adult support and help.

Lastly, the Space Needle teams will be posted at school Tuesday afternoon. As always, team selection has been a difficult process and your patience is appreciated.

Hi all,

The weekly schedule has been updated. Only day of lacrosse will be Thursday at Lochside Turf for both classes.

Coach Reisig also wanted to add that line-ups for the upcoming Spartan Shootout and Space Needle tournament will be posted later this week.

And an update on the seniors trip:

A Sunday morning loss 10-8 to a Florida team we should have beat. Bounced back with an 8-4 win over a mixed group from Canada, Ohio, and Maryland. Finished with an excellent game against an upstate New York team and tied 9-9. Not perfect but all in all a pretty good weekend. Two losses on each morning that we could have had go the other way. Other than that a pretty successful weekend leaving at 4-2-1.

Next stop New York City!!!

Have a great week!

Recap of the seniors trip to Baltimore and New York City.

Some pics can be found here – https://goo.gl/i75M5U

Day 1 notes:
Team is now 3-1 after Saturdays games. A good win vs the Edge from Toronto Friday night 8-4 under the lights in historical Johnny Unitas Stadium shook the rust off and opened our play for the weekend.

A sluggish start to the day Saturday vs Resolute from Ohio resulting in an 8-6 loss. Some good work by the Spartans in their first game Sat but sloppy play and poor shooting left us on the wrong side of a game we should have won.

Feature match of the day was on the outstanding soccer field vs Denver Elite. The guys played an outstanding ‘bounce back’ game and after a great start and an 8-0 halftime lead pushed thru the second half and finished with a 14-4 win. The entire team contributed to an excellent team win.

The last game of the day for the boys was vs 3D Mid Atlantic. The boys came out strong and after a few early goals never looked back. Finishing with a 15-1 victory the Spartans walked away from Towson University feeling pretty good about the day but also with a small fire burning knowing they could have/should have been unbeaten.

Day 2 notes:

A Sunday morning loss 10-8 to a Florida team we should have beat. Bounced back with an 8-4 win over a mixed group from Canada, Ohio, and Maryland. Finished with an excellent game against an upstate New York team and tied 9-9. Not perfect but all in all a pretty good weekend. Two losses on each morning that we could have had go the other way. Other than that a pretty successful weekend leaving at 4-2-1.

Next stop New York City!!!

Claremont Lax in the community

A big thanks to the 12 Claremont Sr’s who volunteered their time this past Friday night at the Cordova Bay Hoot and Howl. The elementary school kids had a ton of fun and the high school boys enjoyed playing games and interacting with the young kids. Lot’s of positive feedback from the community towards the lacrosse program and the young men for sharing some of their time on Friday night.

Thanks again.
